The Korean Consulate General in New York is pleased to announce the 1st “Quiz on Korea” contest with the sponsorship of the Korea Broadcasting System (KBS).

“How many members are in the K-pop band Super Junior? Who is the lead singer of Girls’ Generation? What is the capital of Korea?” If you know the answers to these questions, you may be eligible for a chance to win an all expense paid trip to Korea and be a part of a special television segment with national public broadcaster, KBS.

The “Korean Wave” has taken the world by storm, captivating fans through Korean movies, dramas, and music. In an effort to raise global awareness of Korea, the government of Korea will hold a series of quizzes at Embassies and Consulates across 25 different nations, testing individuals on the country of Korea and its culture. The winner of each nation will be invited to Korea to participate in a final round. Registration for the first round of quizzes in America is now open so send in your applications to be a part of this unique opportunity.

▣ Goal
As a public diplomacy project, to raise non-Korean’s awareness regarding Korea.

▣ Eligibility
▪ U.S. citizens who reside in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware
▪ Individual and any of his/her immediate families must not be from Korean nationality or ethnicity.
▪ Individuals must be available to travel to Korea during the final around which will take place from 8/20-8/31
▪ No age or gender requirements

▣ Selection Process
One person from the United States will be selected for the final which will take place in Korea. (A total of 25 individuals from 25 difference countries)

▣ Prize
▪ The final qualifier from the U.S. will receive round-trip airfare and accommodations for the duration of the filming period in Korea during the final round. (*There will be a separate prize for the final winner announced a t a later time)

▣ Itinerary
▪ May 11 Application deadline
▪ June 15 First round of quizzes and selection of regional finals qualifier
Date: On the morning of June 15, 2012
Venue: The Korean Consulate General in New York (335 East 45th Street, New York, NY 10017)
Application: Submit a complete application to the Consulate via email at press@koreanconsulate.org
Question Type: The multiple choice questions will be used in the first round. The details of the first round will be sent to the participants later via email.
▪ June One contestant selected from each region in the U.S. will be recommended for the second round to the Korean Embassy
▪ July Second qualifying online round will be held at the Korean Embassy in Washington D.C. through Google’s video calling service
▪ August The leading scorer will visit Korea to participate in the final round ▪ September Final round (KBS station)
